But perhaps the show of the year will be Studio 60. Anyone catch it? It certainly is going to fill a West-Wing-sized hole around our place. It looks like it could really be controversial, or at least push some buttons. Even some of ours. But that can't be entirely unhealthy. Anyway, the writing and the acting are phenomenal and Matthew Perry actually fit real well with Bradley Whitford. Amanda Peet was real good too. Also liked that other guy who was CJ's boyfriend on West Wing. Can't remember his name. Anyway, could be a good show.
So, how bout you? Watcha watchin?

I just can't get my head around Matthew Perry being anyone other than "Chandler Bing". Any "House" fans out there?
Never seen House though people tell me I should. We're Office, Prison Break and CSI people (not New York). I was watching and taping CSI Miami last night and during one of the commercials I flipped to Studio 60 and almost forgot about CSI. I think I'm making the switch. I'll still be watching the original CSI on Thursday's but Miami is getting stupid.
I also love reruns of Family Guy and That 70's Show.
The Office, My Name is Earl, Prison Break, House, 24, Amazing Race...and very rarely do we ever watch them at their actual times. The wonders of technology.
We watched Studio 60, but I'm not thrilled. But then again, I like things where people get shot and things blow up.
i saw house once and actually kind of liked it, but i can't stomach the hospital genre ever since ER maxed it out and billy ray cyrus pretty much put an end to the whole thing. i'd probably watch scrubs too if not for this. also, why would i want to be in a hospital more than i have to be?
tanti: lose csi miami and join the studio 60 bandwagon! just remember how david caruso ditched sipowicz! now he's just trying to rehash the old nypd role. too late caruso! i'm not watching! and neither should anyone. one csi is too many as far as i'm concerned. with filming like that they could make dentistry or Sarcan look sexy. (Oh oh, I think i've got the brainchild for another pilot)
Ok, ok, I'll stop lurking here and answer your question. Together Rob and I watch Survivor (although it's getting old), Amazing Race (we're relatively new to it), Without a Trace. I watch all the CSI's though not regularly and we agree Miami's getting stupid. I also got hooked on House (and I think I've hooked Rob too) and Grey's Anatomy (a little smutty but I like any show that can make me cry) over the summer with reruns. Rob of course watches a lot of sports, mainly football right now. So far I only enjoy watching CFL, but I'm getting into the NFL thing due to your fantasy league because you guys are so entertaining. Rob also watches 24, Prison Break (for job purposes, haha), Family Guy, Simpsons and a few other comedies that he watches and erases before I get a chance to see. We have a PVR so we spend much less time watching TV than this is starting to look like. Oh I think we'll be watching that new comedy Til Death (?), the one with Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher about married couples. It was funny.
Now I'm going to admit that there are a couple shows on Showcase that we enjoy and you may feel free to judge us as you will. We watch Rescue Me and Weeds. The language and subject matter can be quite foul but it's also pretty funny. I think Rob likes it more than I do, he works with people like that. So there you have it. I have to say we watch way more TV now than we did before we had kids. What else is there to do every night at home by ourselves?
i haven't heard of rescue me or weeds. what are they?
sounds like house is a big favourite. maybe i'll try it again.
ang and i missed survivor last night for the 2nd week in a row. we may give up on it this time around unless we can catch up somehow online.
other than nfl, studio 60, and jon stewart/colbert report, i'm not sure there is anything on TV i feel i WANT to see.
man, i just have to say i hate csi. i tried to watch it again the other night. sorry folks, i can't stand it. so many leaps in logic. these investigators are just too amazing, i'm sorry. they so clearly read the script ahead of time and that's how they figured it out.
anyone else want to chime in?
jon
OK Rescue Me is a show (originally HBO) about a FDNY firehouse in Harlem starring Dennis Leary. Everyone has dysfunctional lives, there's drug and alcohol abuse, tragic deaths, potty humor and raunchy language. That's whats bad about it, other than that it's pretty funny. Weeds stars Mary Louise Parker as a widower (I believe) with two sons who gets into growing and dealing pot with a group of friends and family. It's not as dark as Rescue Me so I enjoy it more. What's funny is she gets involved with a DEA agent and makes him marry her so he can't testify against her, and then keeps him secret from everyone else she knows.
Rob hates CSI for that very reason too. He used to only watch Miami with me but it's turning really unbelievable as well. I'm starting to like the NY one the best now.
CSI, I know the common criticisms and I don't buy them though I agree the show is getting somewhat hokey. You have to think that these CSI agents are working multiple cases each day and we see 20 of them a year. In that context of course we are going to see the ones that make them look good and are the most interesting.
I am done with Miami though I think, we'll stick with the original for while though, it's just so well made it's like watching a movie each week for free. Anyone catch Smith? The new Ray Liota show? It was pretty good.
Jon, you gotta watch Scrubs and get over your hospital thing, it's one of the funniest and surprisingly moving shows out there.
Heidi, you won't get judged here. I'm more judgemental of Christians who hide from stuff like the shows you're watching simply because of the content. There's a line somewhere and it's different for everybody but I saw an episode of Rescue Me once and it was amazing. You need the swearing in there I think, it would be pretty fake without it.
i'm not sure whether to judge you or not. i'll have to check with dobson. :)
i've seen scrubs and loved it. i can never remember when anything is on though. seems whenever we turn the tv on it is csi. i judge you all for watching csi. may god have mercy on you, cuz i sure don't.

(i hope you know i'm joking around)
Wow, I feel really out of it with TV watching. WE just got a TV again last June after living 6 years without one. We had cable for two months and now have none. Two Sundays ago I was flipping through our 5 channels and got hooked on The Amazing Race, not knowing anything at all about it before hand. I didn't even know it was an "old" show. So, it's still not boring to me (yet). I must admit, part of my attraction was that when I turned it on, everyone kept arriving at the airport, asking for tickets to "Beijing". WEll, my Dad was leaving for Beijing in just a few days too, so I thought, what's this about. Then, when I found out they were headed to Mongolia, I had to keep watching, because that's exactly where my Dad is now. Who knows, maybe next they'll go to the remote village he's visiting in a few days . . .

If I watch CSI it's gotta be Miami! Horatio and his sunglasses make the show what it is.
Jon, i hate medical shows but I've gotta agree with teh other posts that Scrubs is hilarious. And you've definitely got to try House. I'm sure you'll appreciate the sarcasm.
Oh, and if you need some help finding shows online...I know some people who know some people.
I used to watch CSI and Law & Order (both the originals) regularly. But I often found myself disturbed for hours afterward. So, I started asking myself why I was exposing myself to them if they were leaving such a negative impression. So, instead I've filled my TV time with mostly reality shows... Seems lame, but they are always surprising entertaining to me. Survivor and the Amazing Race are getting old, but they still manage to keep me hooked. Nanny shows are also entertaining while I'm stuck on the couch feeding Abby.
Besides my 2 regular shows (Survivor & the Race) I think I'm going to keep tuning in to Studio 60. I didn't think a show about a Hollywood TV network would compare with West Wing in raising controversial issues and intellectual debate, but if the first 2 episodes are any indication of the season to come, they just might make it happen. I love Aaron Sorkin's ability to raise difficult issues and present good points on both sides of the argument. I'll definitely keep watching.
J.
funny that the reality shows are actually game shows and the crime dramas are probably the closest thing to reality. i don't know, one of the things i appreciate about movies, and sometimes TV, is when they burst my comfy bubble and remind me of the state of the world. that said, i know what you mean about law and order et al. how many times do i need to see an episode "ripped from today's headlines"? its not like they tell news stories, they over-dramatize it and then preach their own spin on it and its all so blown up it can be even more intense than reality itself. i don't know, it gets tiresome. you almost get the sense that if you robbed a bank today they'd do an episode of L&O for you next week.
by the way, we forgot to mention the 2nd best show on TV this fall: Gilmore Girls! Wow. what a show. we love it. Lorelei has messed up big folks, and Luke needs to get her back. oh my is it heartwrenching. and knotter you'd be pleased to know that on gilmore girls this week someone drove a car into a restaurant. maybe you should check it out and ditch Horatio once and for all. He's up to no good.
i am also addicted to "lost"...waiting for my next fix...and i'm really sorry but i CANNOT stand gilmour girls! something about that show just grates on my nerves...but if you love it i won't hold it against you...
i (jon) can't stand lost. wow, good thing none of us made friendships based on TV preferences because none of us would be speaking to each other today!
there is no way i would have wanted to be in the same room as the gilmore girls in high school but they are so dang witty, and the show pokes a little fun at them and serves to remind me that pretentious snobs are people too!
I forgot about Gilmore Girls. I love that show too. But I find there is just not enough time in the day to watch everything I'd like too. I have hours of TV waiting for me on the PVR from last week that I just haven't had time to see. I think I'm going to have to cut out something.
Oh, has anyone seen Jericho? Sad to say that I've got hooked on that one too.
I'll throw another vote in their for Lost.
Oh, and you want to try reality TV, try "Deadliest Catch". It's a show on Discovery about Alaskan crab fishing. Neat stuff.
knotter you are hilarious. just when i think maybe i should consider some of the shows you are suggesting you recommend a gripping crab fishing reality show. i've seen fishing on TSN. I've been fishing. Why I would subject myself to more of it is beyond me!
I saw and episode of deadliest catch once, pretty intense. It's not really a fishing show the way you're thinking Jon.
Saw Studio 60 last week and loved it, I'm hooked and officially done with Horatio.
Anyone see Heroes? It was pretty interesting.
i just saw the first episode of heroes last night...intriguing...can't wait to watch the next one tonight...
I would just like to clarify that I don't watch reality shows because I think they clearly portray reality, but simply because they entertain me. I've never seen Gilmore Girls, but I've been assured by many that I would love it and now my sister-in-law has loaned me the first season on DVD, so I'll try to give that a go when I get a chance.
I've missed 2 weeks in a row of Amazing Race- I hate the Sunday night time slot. I always forget that something is on. It happened last year with West Wing and now the Race. Oh well. It's not really hard to pick up where you left off with that show.
By the way, as of last night we're officially done with Prison Break too. What a piece of crap that episode was.
by the way, i don't have much time to play with it right now but I threw together a Survivor blog that survivor viewers could have some fun with. Check it out at www.survivornerds.blogspot.com and make your picks for this week, or comment on the show so far, or whatever.
Don't go there just to make fun of survivor nerds though. We know we're nerds already!
By the way, if enough people want to talk survivor I'll keep the site up and I'll even toy with it and invite people to be members and all that. so sign on and tell your friends! if not, no biggie.
also, if you've always wanted to be a survivor nerd but never had the fellowship to support it, nows your chance! Join us!
Crap...I think I just got hooked on Studio 60. I sat down and started watching last night when I should have been lesson planning. I watched the first week and din't really get into it but last night was pretty good.
There are a few other shows premiering that look curious/interesting. I am interested in what others think about these shows if they have seen them (I don't know if they have even started yet). Jericho and The Nine - They both have that mysterious element in them. THe commercials hooked me but I'm wondering if they are any good. Friday Night Lights has potential but it could turn into the same plot line over and over again (Sort of like ER).
To avoid identity confusion, since Dwayne and I are both posting comments as "the hansens" we will sign off our posts with either D or J- you can guess which one of us you think goes with which letter... The previous post was from D.

I'm hooked on Jericho. It's way of dealing with a disaster/emergency has satisfied me in a way that Lost never did, which is why I couldn't get into Lost (really, who cares about your overdramatic past lives when you're trying to deal with a PLANE CRASH). Having had some training in Wilderness Survival (specific to a plane crash) it really irritated me that the people on Lost were not more concerned with water, shelter, food from the very beginning. Jericho is dealing with their situation with much more common sense and practicality while still delivering tense drama in a realistic way. And that's my two cents on Jericho.
I've also watched the first two episodes of Heroes which has been intriguing and well made and I'm totally hooked on Studio 60, that last episode was amazing.
